Yesterday, the Occupy Wall Street Arts & Culture Working Group, facilitated by the Space Team, began a 2-mo residency at Hyperallergic HQ in Williamsburg. The first activity will be a potluck event that takes place tomorrow, Friday, February 3.

This week, our first February prescription has something for those whose masculinity ails them in the form of two shows at the Brooklyn Museum. But don’t forget it’s Black History month, so we also offer up a healthy dose of African and African-American identity. And finally, the Queens International Biennial, which opens this week, will give you a great booster shot of emerging art that should get you through the week.

Hyperallergic has always kept its finger on the pulse of Bushwick’s growing art scene. This Thursday Hyperallergic editor, Hrag Vartanian, broadens the discussion, as he moderates the “Confronting Bushwick: A Discussion on the Nature and Future of the Bushwick Art Scene” panel at Bushwick’s Bogart Salon, one of the galleries in the burgeoning 56 Bogart Street art building.
This weekend, we’re proud to debut our new section, Hyperallergic Weekend.
Spearheaded by John Yau and Thomas Micchelli, both former editors of the Brooklyn Rail, Claudia La Rocco, regular contributor to the New York Times, and Albert Mobilio of Bookforum, this exciting new forum for deepening the conversation on Hyperallergic will also feature guest contributors every week.
Hyperallergic Weekend continues our aspirations to develop a publication that will engage with ideas and news on a daily basis. We’re very happy that Hyperallergic has been able to grow over the past two years to become an important venue for cultural discussion. We enjoy a passionate global readership and continue to attract leading voices in arts and letters but we also know that the best is yet to come.
Newsletter subscribers will receive an email every Sunday that highlights Hyperallergic Weekend posts, which will include “Required Reading.” This new addition is sure to enrich your weekend reading. Our regular weekly emails will be sent out Thursday mornings. To subscribe to our newsletter, please click here.
Onward and upward!
