# 13 Performances Reimagine Mexican Rituals on Echo Park Lake

This Saturday, experimental vocalist and performance artist [Carmina Escobar](http://carminaescobar.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) has organized a dawn-to-dusk public performance on and around Echo Park Lake that draws on her experience of ritual festivals in her native Mexico. Presented by Machine Project, [Fiesta Perpetua!](http://machineproject.com/2017/events/fiesta-perpetua/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will feature 13 performances by Escobar as well as prominent Japanese Butoh dancer [Oguri](http://lightningshadow.com/Oguri.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) and LA-based Oaxacan youth brass bands, bringing together the traditional and avant-garde in a series of synchronized theatrical interventionson water and land throughout the day.

Escobar and Oguri will float on hand-built rafts designed by mad fabricator [Bob Dornberger](http://www.bobdornberger.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), while [Banda Filarmónica Grandeza Oaxaqueña](https://www.facebook.com/Banda-Filarm%C3%B3nica-Grandeza-Oaxaque%C3%B1a-530505537111494/) and [Banda Filarmónica Maqueos Music](https://www.facebook.com/MaqueosMusic) will simultaneously perform on the shore. Beginning at sunrise, the performances will take place roughly every hour until sundown, based upon the movement of the sun. Visitors are welcome to watch the events from land, or rent a paddle boat and venture out onto the lake.
