Word is that the Warhol Museum is releasing a new Warhol app (iPhone only at first) that allows users to transform photos into silkscreens that create their own versions of art that resemble the Pop master. But you don’t have to wait for the official version since there are many unofficial ones already on the market, including Warhol FX and myPhotoBooth (both for iPhone).

But that’s not the only way you can bring Warhol to your smartphone. The Warhol Museum website will have you know that you can download the Andy Warhol Museum Layars to find all the Warhol landmarks worth knowing, which I think is far cooler than any photo app. The description promises that you can, “view locations in Pittsburgh, PA and New York, NY and dive into related information and photos prepared by The Warhol’s education curators.” That sounds like something worth downloading when traveling to either Warhol-ific city.

Not to be outdone, Christopher Makos, the famed Warhol friend and photographer, also has an app that “contains more than 40 exclusive photographs that represent the core of this artistic encounter.” And now the fun part, ” … iPhone 4 users will be able to … [photograph] themselves disguised as Warhol.” Sweet.

If you can’t get enough of Warhol, then also try the Warhol Quotes App for iPhone and Android … or how about hacking the phone to replace the icons with soup cans or cases or wallpaper?

The irony of Warhol is that while he said everyone would be famous for 15 minutes, his fame shows no sign of going dissipating.
