We all know that Halloween is a time to be festive and creative, but did you know it’s also a great time to be critical? In your costume, that is, at the Storefront for Art and Architecture’s Critical Halloween. The annual costume party invites the artistically inclined to “unleash [their] inner critic through sartorial guise,” and this year your theme and creative inspiration is “I-Relevance.”

Hyperallergic is teaming up with Storefront once again to host the costume competition, which includes a juried contest the night of the event and a people’s choice online vote here on our site. Last year we saw some fantastic entries under the theme of “Corporate Avant-Garde,” including groups that went as the Jeff Koons retrospective, Yayoi Kusama, Banksy stencils, and “emojitecture” — not to mention our editor-in-chief and publisher as artist duo Gilbert and George, and our senior and metro editors as Marina Abramović and Klaus Biesenbach. The people’s choice winner? Exposed brick.

This year, we invite you to apply your creative thinking and crafting skills to the question of relevance in the digital age. Show us what it means to be artistically (ir)relevant — and maybe irreverent, too. The winners will be featured on Hyperallergic and receive a prize!

Critical Halloween is a benefit for Storefront for Art and Architecture. The evening will feature cocktails by Bite, music by Hessismore, Sergio Rebelo, and DJ n-ron, photos by Yuko Torihara, and tons of dancing. Tickets, which include an open bar, are $50, and can be purchased online or by mail (I-Relevance,  611 Broadway, Suite 634, New York, NY 10012). RSVP on Facebook.
