The encounter between the artist as teacher and the artist as student yields a good kind of friction. Sometimes they relate as mentor and mentee, but often students and teachers find themselves working though new ideas and emerging territories as peers: they take turns praising and questioning one another, lighting fires of inspiration and challenging themselves to take risks. In MFA Fine Arts at SVA, students have the unique opportunity to engage critically with the work that their faculty make, and to have a conversation about it, at weekly artist talks hosted by the department.

All of the speakers in this year’s lecture series currently teach in MFA Fine Arts at SVA. Lectures are free and open to the public, start at 6pm, and take place at 133 West 21st Street, Room 101-C, Chelsea, Manhattan. Videos of past lectures are available online at mfafinearts.sva.edu/talks.
