Those who attended the NURTUREart benefit last week got a taste of the Bushwick ballet. And for those who did not attend, you get to look at the animated GIF I created from that night’s performance.

We don’t have definitive proof that Norte Maar’s In the Use of Others for the Change will be the first-ever modern ballet in Bushwick, Brooklyn but we think it just might be.

Following in the long tradition of collaboration between dance and the visual arts, Bushwick art champion Jason Andrew and the creative team of Norte Maar have recruited a number of Bushwick and Bushwick-affiliated artists (Austin Thomas, Audra Wolowiec, Kevin Regan, Andrew Hurst) to help build a new ballet choreographed by Julia K. Gleich.

The ballet will premiere at a gala night event at the Center for Performance Research (361 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn) on April 14 at 7:30 pm and performances will continue until April 16.

You can also show your support of this great project by MAKING A DONATION ONLINE.

Hyperallergic is a proud media sponsor for this production and encourages everyone to help promote this wonderful event that brings various parts of the city’s creative community together.

As an added bonus … tonight (Friday, April 1, 10pm – closing), Bushwick watering hole, Bodega Wine Bar (24 St. Nicholas, Bushwick, Brooklyn), welcomes fans of Norte Maar for the after party for the opening of Boys of Bushwick — a sexy exhibition at Storefront, a gallery co-founded by Andrew. Eat, drink and be merry while enjoying the musical stylings of DJ Scot Bowman and the establishment will donate a portion of the bar proceeds to the upcoming ballet!

Even a vodka die-hard like me will downgrade to a milder elixir like Prosecco to support this worthwhile project.
