NYU Steinhardt’s MA program in Visual Arts Administration prepares you for dynamic careers in the nonprofit and commercial art sectors.
Study with business faculty from NYU’s Stern School of Business and Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and with top arts professionals who bring their marketing, finance, management, legal, and fundraising expertise directly into the classroom. Focus on traditional methods of presentation and audience development as well as new media and technology.
The curriculum considers how education in arts organizations expands knowledge and builds audiences, the increasing role of art in urban development and public spaces, and approaches and tools for encouraging access and participation.
Engage in practical learning through site visits and internships around New York City in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Sotheby’s, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Christie’s, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Creative Time, and Artforum. Take advantage of a wealth of career networking opportunities.
The program fosters a global perspective and attracts students from around the world. Deepen your understanding of global trends and practices in performing and visual arts management through summer study abroad programs in London and in the Netherlands/Berlin.
Program alumni are museum directors, fundraising experts, public art advocates, gallery directors, corporate art consultants, and art fair managers.
Full or part-time study available. Generous scholarships are available for qualified students.
