Artist Katy Mixon, AICAD Studio Practice Residency, Fall 2015

The Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) is offering a Studio Practice Residency for non-student, working artists to develop, refine, or challenge their artistic practice in dialog with a chosen mentor. This residency will be a studio intensive mentorship program held at the AICAD facility in DUMBO, Brooklyn from May 6th through August 30th, 2016.

Visual artist and critic William Powhida, will lead the Studio Practice Residency. Accepted participants will work with mentors to be determined. Past mentors have included: Paddy Johnson (ArtFCity), Ben Davis (Artnet), Letha Wilson, Christopher K. Ho, Carolyn Salas, Jules de Balincourt, and Adam Parker Smith, among others.

The AICAD Studio Practice Residency is a non-credit, fee-based program. The total 4 month program cost is $3,750 ($1,000 deposit and $917 per month for 3 months) with a discount available for alumni of AICAD member schools at $3400 ($1000 deposit and $800 per month). ​The cost of the program covers the studio rental, visiting artist and critic mentor stipends, monthly workshop fees and facility/administrative costs.

The summer program is open to practicing artists or students currently enrolled in an MFA program looking for an opportunity to work in New York City. To be considered for placement, complete an application herechoose a mentor, and send to the program’s Administrative Co-Director Alan Lupiani at alan@aicad.org by the application deadline of April 1st, 2016.
