If a dog is a man’s best friend, and Snoop Dogg is Martha Stewart’s best friend, then Snoop giving Stewart a painting of a dog means the circle is complete. The consensus seems to be that the subject of this quasi-Fauvist painting is a dog, though it could also be a sad, stoned Winnie the Pooh, or Tha Doggfather’s stylized self-portrait.
“Very nice, don’t you think?” wrote Stewart —who has hosted Snoop on her cooking show, repeatedly — in a Tweet about the painting. We do think it is very nice. The red and yellow palette seems to reference to the rapper’s short-lived Snoop Lion phase, while wiggly gray lines in the background suggest, perhaps, plumes of marijuana smoke — perhaps even issuing from his one of his swanky Leafs By Snoop weed products.
“My process when I get ready to paint, I definitely gotta have a blunt,” Snoop Dogg said in a short film-cum-sock advertisement about his burgeoning art career last year. “Cause the blunt is inspiration to the creation. … My mind is somewhere else where it was a colorful time. Painting for me gives me an emotion like no other. You know, I can cry while I’m painting. I can laugh while I’m painting. I can be serious while I’m painting. I don’t have no parameters. … Sometimes the music in my life don’t explain exactly what I’m going through, so [painting] is another piece of the puzzle.”
Perhaps the painting will make a cameo in Martha and Snoop’s Dinner Party, the improbable duo’s upcoming cooking show. If it doesn’t turn up in the series premiere, airing on VH1 later this fall, just chill till the next episode.
