The Department of Art and Art History at University at Albany is accepting applications for fall 2017 MFA (60 credit) and MA (30 credit) programs in Studio Art. All students in the highly competitive 2-year 60-credit MFA program are offered Teaching or Graduate Assistantship funding and 50% tuition waiver.

Regular studio visits with faculty, peers, and visiting artists give rise to critical insight into student’s work; contemporary art-related topics and issues are explored in seminars that complement studio courses and critiques. In this affordable, interdisciplinary program, students work across Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture and Installation, and Photography and Related Media, and are given 24-hour access to spacious, private, and semi-private studios and well-equipped common work areas and production facilities.

Our distinguished faculty of artists and art historians work closely with students to develop their graduate portfolios; as a culminating experience MFA students show their thesis work in the University Art Museum. MA students have their thesis show in the Boor Sculpture Building, with public receptions for both events.

The Visiting Artists and Lecturers program brings numerous emerging and mid- to late-career artists to campus for public presentations and individual studio visits with MFA students. Recent visiting artists include Maximilian Goldfarb, Saya Woolfalk, Roger White, Michelle Segre, Alexander Ross, Janine Antoni, James Casebere, Roberta Smith, Elana Herzog, Danica Phelps, Lisa Yuskavage, Carol Dunham, Lucas Blalock, K8 Hardy, and Tommy Hartung.

Application Deadline: February 15, 2017.
