SACI’s MFA in Photography will provide you with a unique opportunity to explore and expand your personal practice through direct exposure to historical and contemporary international photographic approaches. You will visit the studios of cutting-edge photographers, view exhibitions by emerging and established photographers, and travel to photography fairs in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. You will be encouraged to situate your own practice within this cultural panorama in ways that equip you with essential career tools.

Working in your studio in a fully renovated Renaissance palazzo in the heart of Florence, you will pursue a curriculum integrating practical and critical skills and encouraging individual innovation, creative collaboration, mentorships, and instruction from SACI’s outstanding faculty. In your Graduate Seminars, you will be encouraged, through individual practice and group critiques, to explore your potential to the fullest.

You will attend SACI for two successive academic years and earn 60 credits.  During your first year, you will put together a program that balances independent study with classroom study. In your second year, emphasis will be placed upon career options for emerging photographers, and you will be able to gain practical experience as a SACI Teaching Assistant. Your photographic work will be featured during both years in exhibitions in Florence.

The program draws upon educational opportunities available only through immersion in contemporary European culture to prepare students for careers as photographers and university instructors.
