The experimental musician, composer, filmmaker, artist, and teacher Tony Conrad had a powerful influence on many different avant-garde communities. Since his death a year ago there have been numerous tributes to Conrad — like the documentary that [recently premiered at Anthology Film Archives](https://hyperallergic.com/a-documentary-on-tony-conrads-shape-shifting-legacy/) — and this Saturday marks the culmination of [a monthlong program](https://tonyconrad.memorial/?ref=hyperallergic.com) with a public memorial at the [Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center](http://www.theclementecenter.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature speeches, musical performances, and videos in tribute to the late artist by roughly 25 participants — including family members, musicians, artists, and curators. As a finale, a number of musicians who collaborated with him during his lifetime will perform one of Conrad’s musical compositions.

The slate of memorial events continues on Sunday, April 9 — the first anniversary of his death — with screenings of Conrad’s films at [Anthology](http://anthologyfilmarchives.org/film%5Fscreenings/calendar?view=list&month=4&year=2017&ref=hyperallergic.com#showing-47271) and performances of his work at the [Le Poisson Rouge](http://lpr.com/lpr%5Fevents/charlemagne-palestine-rhys-chatham-april-9th-2017/?ref=hyperallergic.com).
