Founded in 2007, the [Punto y Raya Festival](http://www.puntoyrayafestival.com/en/index.php?ref=hyperallergic.com) (Spanish for “Dot and Line”) is dedicated to showcasing abstract, experimental cinema from around the world. Over the past decade, the festival has featured the work of over 4,500 artists from dozens of countries, overcoming barriers of language and geography by focusing on “pure form, color, motion and sound.”

The festival, which originated in Madrid and held recent editions in Iceland and Germany, is bringing last year’s highlights to LA. [The Best of Punto y Raya Festival 2016](http://www.echoparkfilmcenter.org/events/the-best-of-punto-y-raya-festival-2016-abstract-art-in-motion/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will be hosted at the Echo Park Film Center, in conjunction with abstract animation nonprofit [iotaCenter](http://www.iotacenter.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com). Despite the event’s specific parameters, there is a surprising breadth of work on view, from analog films that recall [Oskar Fischinger’s pioneering abstractions](http://www.oskarfischinger.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), to playful, video-game inspired works, to digital compositions set to thumping electronic dance music scores. Festival director Noel Palazzo will also be in attendance. Doors at 7:30pm, $5 admission.

**When:** Thursday, March 23, 8pm ($5)
**Where:** Echo Park Film Center (1200 N. Alvarado St., Echo Park, Los Angeles)
