# A Series of Indigenous-Led Performances and Conversations Kick Off Across New York

The Global First Nations Performance Network (GFNPN), a pilot initiative dedicated to cultural change through Indigenous performance, kicks off this week with the [First Nations Dialogues Lenapehoking New York](https://www.blakdance.org.au/first-nations-dialogues/?ref=hyperallergic.com). The week-long series of events, running from January 5 through 12, is a series of Indigenous-led performances, discussions, workshops, and ceremony, held in partnership with The Lenape Center, Amerinda, American Indian Community House, Abrons Arts Center, American Realness, Danspace Project, Gibney Dance, La MaMA, Performance Space New York, Safe Harbors Indigenous Collective, Under the Radar, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), and the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) — quite an impressive list.

The First Nations Dialogues, led by Indigenous artists and organizers, was developed in order to “create new opportunities for production and dissemination of work internationally, to overcome the historic underrepresentation of such work in the US and a dearth of support for artistic exchange between Indigenous communities globally.”

One notable event includes Performance Space New York’s [*KIN*](https://performancespacenewyork.org/shows/first-nations-dialogues-kin/?ref=hyperallergic.com), which “[features three performances, one workshop, and three conversations by five First Nations artists from Australia and local NYC-based elder Muriel Miguel from the Kuna and Rappahannock Nations](https://performancespacenewyork.org/shows/first-nations-dialogues-kin/?ref=hyperallergic.com).” Also worth attending is La MaMa’s performance [*Serpentine*](http://americanrealness.com/portfolio-type/daina-ashbee/?ref=hyperallergic.com) on January 9, 10, and 11, featuring Daina Ashbee’s “dark and feminine choreographic practice,” performed by Areli Moran.
