# A Workshop for Knowing Your Rights When Protesting

Over the past few years, diverse segments of the population have been mobilized in protest, whether it be in support of the Black Lives Matter movement or in opposition to the current administration’s policies. Artists are no exception, creating visual and performative approaches to express their outrage. In conjunction with their current protest-focused exhibition, [*I can call this progress to halt*](http://welcometolace.org/event/i-can-call-this-progress-to-halt/?ref=hyperallergic.com), LACE and the [Center for Cultural Innovation](http://www.cciarts.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) are hosting the workshop, [Know Your Rights: Artists & Civil Disobedience](http://welcometolace.org/event/know-your-right-artists-civil-disobedience/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

Representatives from the [National Lawyers Guild](http://www.nlg-la.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), the nation’s first racially integrated association of progressive lawyers, will discuss protocol and best responses when confronted by police, legal consequences of civil disobedience, and what rights you are guaranteed during protest actions. A Q&A will offer an opportunity for participants to discuss their specific situations.
