A handful of them tried their hand at getting to the branch, working impressively well as a team and taking heightened tumbles in stride. I thought it was a really endearing way to spend the last day of summer vacation, and I remain hopeful that this plucky band of problem-solvers and all kids in NYC make the most of their enviable qualities of fearlessness and fast-found friendships. I look to Mayor [Mamdani’s moratorium on student-facing AI programs](https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2026/09/mayor-mamdani-and-chancellor-samuels-put-students-first-with-nat?ref=hyperallergic.com), and the new screen time limitations in classrooms from 2K through eighth grade, as agents to both protect and fortify those precious elements of childhood. Senior Editor Valentina Di Liscia’s review of *Marina* (2026), a performance developed by Julio Torres and Martine Gutierrez for the 2026 Whitney Biennial, finds that the campy production “defangs our toxic relationship to our screens” by approaching it with humor rather than stoking fear. Though I’m fully rotted from my own screen-based habits, I briefly reconnected with my inner child at the *Snoopy In Style NYC* exhibition in the Meatpacking District. It was unapologetically commercial, but nonetheless an enjoyable, well-intentioned rehashing of how the sassy cartoon beagle’s boundless imagination rocked the world. I hear that there’s a two-hour wait to get in on some days, though, so I’ll probably only hear from *true* Snoopy fans about their experience. It’s so easy to lose sight of the ingredients to a healthy social life and reliable community as adults. We forget that safety and security are reinforced in numbers, even in the face of the profound risks that encourage us to shut our doors. Amalia Uribe Guardiola, a 2025 Craft Archive Fellow, examines a specific demographic’s work to counteract this in Queens. Uribe Guardiola’s feature on two particular “costureros,” collective needlework circles for largely undocumented, working-class Latin American immigrant women, not only draws attention to an undersung contemporary textile archive but also unpacks how the meetings serve as a place of agency, collectivity, and personal reflection among attendees.
