# An Arts Festival Highlights California’s Role in Gay Liberation

Beginning tonight and running through the end of June, the city of West Hollywood will celebrate Pride month with 40 days of art, performance, film, and literary events. Organized by [WeHo Arts](http://www.weho.org/residents/arts-and-culture?ref=hyperallergic.com), the [One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival](http://www.weho.org/residents/one-city-one-pride-2017?ref=hyperallergic.com) kicks off tonight, on Harvey Milk Day, at [the Abbey](https://www.theabbeyweho.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) Restaurant & Bar with an [artist-led sign-making workshop](https://www.facebook.com/events/296723707443358) in preparation for the [Resist March](https://www.resistmarch.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) on June 11\. The theme of this year’s festival is “Go West,” focusing on California’s historic role in gay liberation and empowerment.

Other notable events include a theatrical [LGBTQ History Tour](http://stuarttimmons.com/weho-lgbt-history-tour/?ref=hyperallergic.com) on June 3, written by the late, celebrated author Stuart Timmons; [Migration of the Monarchs](http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/4704?ref=hyperallergic.com), a three-part costumed performance by trans artist Yozmit that fuses Cabaret with Butoh and Kabuki; the exhibition[*Lesbians to Watch Out For*](https://www.facebook.com/events/270091986782556) which explores the history of ’90s queer activism in LA;and the world premiere of *Jeanne Cordova: Butches, Lies, and Feminism*, a new documentary about the life of this [influential activist](http://jeannecordova.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) on June 29\.
