# An Exhibition to Mark the End of the Roger Ailes Era

Here’s an exhibition to soothe some of what ails you: yours mine & ours has teamed up with six other galleries to present a tongue-in-cheek memorial show for Roger Ailes, the founder and longtime CEO of Fox News who [died in May](http://variety.com/2017/biz/news/roger-ailes-dead-77-fox-news-1202433523/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

In addition to masterminding the network that has probably done more damage to US political discourse than any other single entity, Ailes was [an advisor](http://www.salon.com/2017/05/18/master-deceivers-when-roger-ailes-met-richard-nixon/?ref=hyperallergic.com) to Republican [politicians](https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/17/us/politics/donald-trump-roger-ailes.html?%5Fr=0&ref=hyperallergic.com) and a [serial sexual harasser](https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/jul/21/roger-ailes-leaves-fox-news-sexual-harassment-claims?ref=hyperallergic.com). The exhibition’s [press release](http://yoursmineandoursgallery.com/rams/?ref=hyperallergic.com) consists solely of a [*New York Times* op-ed](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/22/opinion/monica-lewinsky-roger-ailess-dream-was-my-nightmare.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) Monica Lewinsky wrote after Ailes died reflecting on his loathsome legacy. But the list of participating artists features a promising lineup of painters and sculptors — and [David Wojnarowicz](https://hyperallergic.com/tag/david-wojnarowicz/).

Some of the featured artists are very overt in their references to the current political situation, like [Cindy Hinant’s](http://cindyhinant.com/home.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) appropriation of a tabloid magazine’s photograph of Ivanka Trump. Others take more oblique approaches, like [Nicole Wittenberg’s](http://nicolewittenberg.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) painting that abstracts the façade of the headquarters of Fox News’s parent company, News Corp, [Rochelle Feinstein’s](http://rochellefeinsteinstudio.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) ominous text composition “The Week in Hate” (2017), and [Sam Jablon’s](http://samueljablon.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) cryptic and searing canvas “Flames Hiss” (2017). Despite the exhibition’s subtitle, “Fair and Balance,” it seems likely to offer a rather lopsided estimation of Ailes’s life and work.
