Applications are open for the Sam Fox School’s [MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture program](http://bit.ly/2JTyKkz?ref=hyperallergic.com) at [Washington University in St. Louis](http://bit.ly/33noTLq?ref=hyperallergic.com). The [curriculum](http://bit.ly/2NkhKWU?ref=hyperallergic.com) combines studio practice in illustration with material culture studies. This two-year residential program prepares graduates to work as author-artists of graphic novels and picture books, professors, critical writers, and curators.

The MFA-IVC program is built on the expertise of the School’s illustration and design faculty, and the vast resources of Washington University, a tier-one research institution. The School’s resources include the [Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library](http://bit.ly/2NGMaSc?ref=hyperallergic.com), the [Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum](http://bit.ly/2PQ4gE0?ref=hyperallergic.com), and the [D.B. Dowd Modern Graphic History Library](http://bit.ly/34CFQlv?ref=hyperallergic.com), a preeminent site for studying the history and culture of American illustration.

**Facilities**  
MFA-IVC studios are located in [Weil Hall,](https://www.mfaivc.samfoxschool.wustl.edu/new-page?ref=hyperallergic.com) a brand-new facility with a digital fabrication lab and numerous spaces for collaboration and cross-disciplinary exchange. Students will also have access to the integrated printmaking suite, home to [Island Press](http://bit.ly/32k0mFG?ref=hyperallergic.com) and the [Kranzberg Book Studio](https://samfoxschool.wustl.edu/node/3649?ref=hyperallergic.com).

**Faculty**  
Washington University’s [faculty](http://bit.ly/2NkiPxW?ref=hyperallergic.com) specialize in children’s books, editorial illustration, cultural theory, graphic novels, zines, typography, and social practice: John Hendrix (chair), Chrissi Cowhey, D.B. Dowd, Jonathan Hanahan, Audra Hubbell, Heidi Kolk, Rebecca Leffell Koren, Shreyas R Krishnan, Skye Lacerte, Penina Acayo Laker, Rebecca Leffell Koren, Frank Oros, Jeff Pike, and Dan Zettwoch. Fall visitors include Chris Buzelli, Kevin Huizenga, Ed Kinsella, and Vesper Stamper.
