# This Archtober, Spend the Month Exploring NYC's Exceptional Buildings

While New York City, like most American cities, has seen many of its buildings come and go, it still has a rich architectural history. For seven years, the annual festival [Archtober](https://archtober.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) has offered tours, lectures, and events surrounding the dense architecture and eclectic designs of the city. Put together by the Center for Architecture in partnership with 60 other organizations, Archtober’s sprawling programming should appeal to architecture nerds and newbies alike.

One of the festival’s highlights is its [Building of the Day tours](https://archtober.org/calendar?ref=hyperallergic.com), which give an in-depth view of one particular New York City structure, from the [Staten Island Courthouse](https://aiany.secure.force.com/pmtx/evt%5F%5FQuickEvent?id=a0b6100000RziUh&ref=hyperallergic.com) to the [Boys & Girls Club of Harlem](https://aiany.secure.force.com/pmtx/evt%5F%5FQuickEvent?id=a0b6100000RziTU&ref=hyperallergic.com) that transformed an abandoned 1903 public school. Or, for a broader picture of the urban landscape, you can sign up for [a boat tour](https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/sail-nyc/items/?selected-items=25950,25963,25964,25965,47461&asn=aia&full-items=yes&ref=hyperallergic.com) this Sunday that circumnavigates Manhattan along the Hudson, East, and Harlem rivers.

Also this weekend, the Center for Architecture is opening its [exhibition that tracks the history of scaffolding](https://cfa.aiany.org/index.php?section=calendar&evtid=10844&ref=hyperallergic.com), a feature of the urban landscape with which New Yorkers are all too familiar.
