A photograph of the iceberg believed to have sunk the [Titanic](http://news.discovery.com/history/photo-of-iceberg-that-sank-titanic-on-auction-151019.htm?ref=hyperallergic.com) will be auctioned at Henry Aldridge & Son on Saturday. The image was taken the morning after the Titanic sank by M. Linoenewald, the chief steward of the German ocean liner Prinz Adalbert. The [lot](http://www.henry-aldridge.co.uk/catalogues/2015/ss241015/lot0209.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) is estimated to fetch around £10,000–£15,000.

The UN formally approved Italy’s proposal to deploy [Blue Helmet](http://aranews.net/2015/10/u-n-blue-helmets-to-protect-historical-sites-from-isis/?ref=hyperallergic.com) troops to protect heritage sites threatened by Islamist extremists.

The Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch, Holland, will display 20 of the 25 surviving panels by [Hieronymus Bosch](http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/oct/21/hieronymus-bosch-exhibition-holland-small-museum-host-largest-ever?CMP=twt%5Fa-artanddesign%5Fb-gdnartanddesign&ref=hyperallergic.com) for an [exhibition](http://www.hetnoordbrabantsmuseum.nl/verwacht/jheronimus-bosch-%282016%29/?ref=hyperallergic.com) celebrating the artist’s 500th birthday.

Cuban artist [Danilo Maldonado Machado](http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/20/cuba-artist-el-sexto-released-prison-castro-pigs?ref=hyperallergic.com) (aka El Sexto) was released from prison. The artist was jailed for 10 months after spray-painting the names [Fidel and Raúl](https://hyperallergic.com/amnesty-international-calls-for-release-of-cuban-dissident-artist/) on two pigs.

A wooden sculpture of a cherub, which its owner has attributed to [Donatello](http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/22/arts/design/statue-may-be-a-lost-work-by-donatello.html?ref=hyperallergic.com), will go on display at Moretti Fine Art in London on October 30\. Art dealer Andrew Butterfield purchased the gilded sculpture in 2012\. Eike Schmidt, the director of the Uffizi Gallery, described Butterfield’s case as “extremely solid.”

[Gilbert and George](http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/news/gilbert-george-become-a-trio-as-they-take-to-the-stage-alongside-a-transgender-nurse-a6697461.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) collaborated with a transgender nurse named Victoria as part of the Serpentine Gallery’s 10th annual [Marathon session](http://www.serpentinegalleries.org/exhibitions-events/transformation-marathon?ref=hyperallergic.com). Victoria is the only other person to have been conferred the status of “living sculpture” by the duo.

A number of critics and historians called into question the ongoing restoration of [Chartres Cathedral](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11941180/Row-rumbles-over-famed-Chartres-cathedral-after-American-critics-slam-scandalous-makeover.html?ref=hyperallergic.com).

The [Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art](http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/2015/10/foundation-dedicated-to-wwii-monuments-men-will-close-after-congressional-gold-medal-ceremony.html/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will cease operations by the end of the month. Businessman and author Robert Edsel created the foundation to chronicle and promote the history of the [Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monuments,%5FFine%5FArts,%5Fand%5FArchives%5Fprogram?ref=hyperallergic.com).

[Anish Kapoor](http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/news/anish-kapoor-s-orbit-losing-10000-a-week-described-as-standout-success-for-olympic-legacy-a6702291.html?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s “[ArcelorMittal Orbit](https://hyperallergic.com/carsten-holler-wraps-worlds-longest-slide-around-anishs-kapoors-london-tower/)” made a loss of £520,000 (\~$796,000) in 2014.

Iranian filmmaker [Keywan Karimi](http://www.fairfieldcitizenonline.com/news/article/Award-winning-Iranian-filmmaker-gets-6-year-6569882.php?ref=hyperallergic.com#photo-8789256) was sentenced to six years in prison and 223 lashes for “insulting sanctities.” Karimi’s work includes *Writing on the City*, a film exploring the role of graffiti in Iran from the 1979 Revolution to the present.

The UK’s culture minister, Ed Vaizey, placed a temporary export bar on [Rembrandt](http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-34549352?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s “Portrait of Caterina” (ca. 1657).

The mysterious [eye in a speech bubble emoji](http://www.wired.com/2015/10/i-am-a-witness-emoji-ios-9/?mbid=social%5Ftwitter&ref=hyperallergic.com) that [perplexed](https://hyperallergic.com/art-movements-118/) Apple users last month is part of an anti-bullying campaign dubbed “I Am A Witness.”

Germany granted [Ai Weiwei](http://www.artnews.com/2015/10/21/ai-weiwei-receives-three-year-german-visa/?ref=hyperallergic.com) a three-year visa. The artist is due to begin a professorship at Berlin’s University of the Arts.

A hiker discovered a 1,200-year-old [Viking sword](http://www.thelocal.no/20151021/hiker-finds-1300-yr-old-viking-sword?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Norway.

The Pace Gallery released a set of [posthumous Jean-Michel Basquiat prints](http://www.paceprints.com/news/new-release-estate-jean-michel-basquiat?ref=hyperallergic.com) priced at $50,000 a piece. The prints, which were authorized by the artist’s estate, have raised a number of [questions](http://www.artlyst.com/articles/pace-gallery-release-50k-posthumous-basquiat-print-reproducing-whitney-museum-painting?ref=hyperallergic.com).

Thanks to [Drake](https://hyperallergic.com/did-drakes-new-video-get-its-bling-from-james-turrells-light-installations/)‘s James Turrell-inspired music video, [this](http://www.wired.com/2015/10/drakes-hotline-bling-video-has-claimed-its-first-victim/?mbid=social%5Ffb&ref=hyperallergic.com) will now happen at every exhibition of light art for the foreseeable future.

The [Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art](http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/oct/20/scottish-national-gallery-of-modern-art-acquires-rare-picasso-collage?ref=hyperallergic.com) acquired a rare cubist collage by Pablo Picasso.

Patricia and Mark Joseph donated $3 million toward the [Baltimore Museum of Art](http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/arts/bal-bma-donation-20151020-story.html?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s Patricia and Mark Joseph Education Center, which will open this weekend.
