[Ohad Meromi](http://qns.com/story/2016/11/15/pink-sculpture-caused-controversy-installed-long-island-city-weekend/?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s monumental pink sculpture, “The Sunbather,” was installed at an intersection in Long Island City, Queens. The [controversial work](http://hyperallergic.com/168255/guerilla-sculpture-critiques-big-budget-public-art-commission/), which cost $515,000 to produce, led to the passing of a bill by the New York City Council requiring community hearings prior to the installation of public art projects.

A toilet emblazoned with a portrait of the US president-elect and the phrase “[Dump on Trump](https://twitter.com/chrisfromabc2/status/797797467437809664?ref=hyperallergic.com)” was left outside the entrance of the [American Visionary Art Museum](http://www.baltimoresun.com/features/baltimore-insider-blog/bal-dump-on-trump-toilet-american-visionary-art-museum-20161114-story.html?ref=hyperallergic.com). According to *The Baltimore Sun*, police were prompted to respond to the sculpture as “a possible bomb threat.”

The [Whitney Museum](http://hosted.verticalresponse.com/268997/7c920d417d/1561791517/3027149146/?ref=hyperallergic.com) released the list of 63 artists and artist collectives who will be included in next year’s Whitney Biennial — the first in the museum’s [new Meatpacking District building](http://hyperallergic.com/206477/the-new-whitney-museum-a-machine-for-looking-at-art-and-being-seen-looking-at-art/).

Residents at [Trump Place](http://theslot.jezebel.com/trump-place-is-removing-donald-trumps-name-1789054833?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Manhattan voted to remove the president-elect’s name from the premises. Power washers were used to remove the marks left by the building’s brass signage.

The Van Gogh Museum rejected the attribution of ink drawings included in the newly released book, [*Vincent van Gogh: The Lost Arles Sketchbook*](https://hyperallergic.com/museum-denies-authenticity-of-newly-revealed-van-gogh-drawings/).

The German culture minister, Monika Grütters, appointed the first Jewish members to the [Limbach Commission](http://theartnewspaper.com/news/news/germany-appoints-jewish-members-to-nazi-looted-art-panel/?ref=hyperallergic.com) — the panel established to mediate Nazi-looted art ownership disputes.

Two antique dealers, Ricardo Ostalé and David Maturén, believe that they have discovered Elias García Martinez’s original study for “[Ecce Homo](http://www.thelocal.es/20161117/original-ecce-homo-painting-shows-pre-botch-jesus?ref=hyperallergic.com),” the fresco that was infamously “restored” by Cecilia Giménez — aka “[Beast Jesus](https://hyperallergic.com/a-pilgrimage-to-beast-jesus/).”

[Eric McNatt](http://www.thefashionlaw.com/home/richard-prince-sued-again-over-new-portraits-instagram-show?ref=hyperallergic.com) filed a lawsuit against Richard Prince. The photographer is the fourth person to file a copyright complaint over Prince’s [*New Portraits*](http://hyperallergic.com/152762/richard-prince-inc/) series.

Police are investing the vandalization of Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s “[Elephant and Obelisk](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/15/rome-in-shock-as-bernini-elephant-statue-vandalised/?ref=hyperallergic.com)” (1667) in Rome. A marble fragment (specifically the left tusk of the elephant) was recovered near the sculpture on Monday morning.

[Jenny Holzer and Giuseppe Penone](http://theartnewspaper.com/news/museums/louvre-abu-dhabi-announces-jenny-holzer-and-giuseppe-penone-commissions-as-institution-edges-closer-/?ref=hyperallergic.com) were commissioned to create works for the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The museum, which will open next year, has come under intense criticism for the [abuse and exploitation](http://hyperallergic.com/tag/louvre-abu-dhabi/) of its construction workers.

[Annette Lemieux](https://hyperallergic.com/in-response-to-trumps-election-artist-asked-the-whitney-museum-to-turn-her-work-upside-down/)‘s 1995 work, “Left Right Left Right” was reinstalled upside down at the Whitney Museum following the outcome of the presidential election.

The UK culture minister, Matt Hancock, placed a temporary export bar on [William Hogarth](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/export-bar-to-save-satirical-hogarth-painting?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s “The Christening” (c. 1728).

The Romanian government passed an emergency ordinance to purchase [Constantin Brancusi](http://theartnewspaper.com/news/news/romanian-government-will-buy-brancusi-work-despite-failed-fundraising-attempt/?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s “The Wisdom of the Earth” (1907) after a public fundraising campaign only raised €1 million (\~$1.06 million) of its €6 million (\~$6.37 million) goal.

[Anselm Kiefer](http://theartnewspaper.com/news/news/anselm-kiefer-calls-for-his-first-exhibition-in-china-to-be-cancelled/?ref=hyperallergic.com) called upon Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts to pull an upcoming exhibition of his work. The artist claims that the show was planned “without \[his\] involvement or consent.”

Residents in the German town of Heppenheim complained about a poster featuring Artemisia Gentileschi’s painting “[Judith Slaying Holofernes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith%5FSlaying%5FHolofernes%5F%28Artemisia%5FGentileschi%29?ref=hyperallergic.com)” (c. 1614–20). The work is currently on display at the Wiesbaden Museum as part its exhibition [*Caravaggio’s Heirs*](https://museum-wiesbaden.de/caravaggios-erben?ref=hyperallergic.com). According to the BBC, the museum has agreed to “[gradually remove](http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-38001010?ref=hyperallergic.com)” its posters from the region.

Glenn Brown produced a new work for the [Laing Art Gallery](http://www.contemporaryartsociety.org/news/cas-news/major-new-work-glenn-brown-acquired-laing-art-gallery-newcastle-great-works-scheme/?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Newcastle — the first donation made through the Contemporary Art Society’s [Great Works](http://www.contemporaryartsociety.org/special-projects/great-works/?ref=hyperallergic.com) scheme.

[Edvard Munch](http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/BID/3244119656x0x917480/8288639D-7D2B-4D9A-8DF4-4F1CEEF12F51/Results%5F-%5FImpressionist%5FModern%5FArt%5FEve%5F-%5FNY%5F14%5FNov%5F2016.pdf?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s “Girls on a Bridge” (1902) was sold at Sotheby’s for $54.5 million, the second-highest auction price for a work by the artist.
