[Suzanne Malyon](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/09/19/anish-kapoor-studio-extension-approved-residents-london-news-uk/?ref=hyperallergic.com), the head of the “[Stop Anish Kapoor stealing our light and colour!](https://www.change.org/p/kieron-williams-stop-anish-kapoor-taking-away-our-light-and-colour?ref=hyperallergic.com)” campaign, accused the artist of being “mean-spirited” following the approval of his studio extension by Southwark Council. Local residents fought against Kapoor’s proposed design, arguing that the architectural extension would block natural light to their properties. “He’s part of the moneyed, connected establishment and we feel like we’re not listened to as we’re less able to afford lawyers,” Malyon told Dezeen.

[Phillips](http://www.artnews.com/2017/09/15/phillips-pulls-work-from-new-now-sale-after-mark-grotjahn-says-im-not-sure-i-made-this/?ref=hyperallergic.com) withdrew a painting attributed to Mark Grotjahn from auction after the artist suggested in a comment on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/BYjw9m1gVmW/?ref=hyperallergic.com) that the work wasn’t his. “Yo Phillips. (. Dm. Me. ),” Grotjahn wrote, “I’m not sure I made this. Either way it sucks.”

The [Getty Museum](http://news.getty.edu/press-materials/press-releases/raremichelangelo.htm?ref=hyperallergic.com) will display Michelangelo’s “Study of a Mourning Woman” (ca 1500–05) for a limited time through October 29.

Photographer [Çağdaş Erdoğan](http://www.bjp-online.com/2017/09/cagdas-erdogan-arrested-in-istanbul/?ref=hyperallergic.com) was arrested in Istanbul after allegedly photographing the MİT building, the headquarters of Turkey’s National Intelligence Centre.

The Smithsonian’s [National Museum of Natural History](https://www.ktoo.org/2017/09/20/87-years-smithsonian-collection-bones-igiugig-ancestors-return-home/?ref=hyperallergic.com) returned the remains of Igiugig ancestors excavated 87 years ago.

Dozens of neo-Nazi flyers and stickers, bearing slogans such as “Beware the International Jew” and “Imagine a Muslim-Free America,” were displayed at the [University of Houston](https://www.algemeiner.com/2017/09/17/antisemitic-fliers-found-at-university-of-houston-as-neo-nazis-continue-college-recruitment-efforts/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

The German government launched a new website providing detailed information on the recently enacted [Cultural Property Protection Law](http://www.kulturgutschutz-deutschland.de/DE/Home/home%5Fnode.html?ref=hyperallergic.com). Opposed by a number of dealers, the legislation requires an export license from the country of origin for any antiquity offered for sale in the country.

Arturo Di Modica’s “[Charging Bull](http://gothamist.com/2017/09/14/climate%5Fchange%5Fcharging%5Fbull.php?ref=hyperallergic.com)” (1989) sculpture near Wall Street was vandalized with blue paint as part of a climate change campaign dubbed “[Draw The Blue Line](https://www.drawtheblueline.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com).”

[Gillian Wearing](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2017/sep/20/artist-gillian-wearing-unveils-design-parliament-square-statue-suffragist-leader-millicent-fawcett?ref=hyperallergic.com) unveiled the design for her Parliament Square monument to suffragist Millicent Fawcett.

New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission decided to consider the former home and studio of [Willem de Kooning](https://ny.curbed.com/2017/9/19/16334668/willem-de-kooning-union-square-preservation?ref=hyperallergic.com) for designated status.

Sony Pictures released the trailer for Ridley Scott’s [*All the Money in the World*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x62O8A8qHw&ref=hyperallergic.com), a dramatization of the [kidnapping of Paul Getty](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John%5FPaul%5FGetty%5FIII?ref=hyperallergic.com#Kidnapping) (aka John Paul Getty III) in 1973.

Banksy’s “Civilian Drone Strike” (2017) was sold at the [Art the Arms Fair](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2017/sep/16/banksy-gives-205000-to-human-rights-and-anti-arms-trade-groups?ref=hyperallergic.com) for $277,000\. The proceeds will be donated to [Campaign Against Arms Trade](https://www.caat.org.uk/?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [Reprieve](https://www.reprieve.org.uk/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

Consultancy Samuel Beilin and Partners sold five Liverpool murals created by [Banksy](http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-merseyside-41351209?ref=hyperallergic.com) to an anonymous Qatari buyer for £3.2 million (\~$4.3 million).

The New York Foundation for the Arts will expand its [Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program](http://current.nyfa.org/post/165479430418/introducing-participants-in-the-2017-immigrant?ref=hyperallergic.com) to Detroit, Newark, Oakland, and San Antonio following a two-year grant provided by the Ford Foundation \[via email announcement\].

H. Keith Melton donated his collection of spy artifacts to the [International Spy Museum](https://www.spymuseum.org/press/press-archive/detail/spy-museum-triples-collection-with-pledged-donation-of-more-than-5000-new-artifacts/?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Washington, DC. The grant will be used to support the museum’s “Connect to Conservation” program.

A George Daniel’s “[Space Travelers](http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2017/watches-sale-l17054/lot.121.html?ref=hyperallergic.com)” (1982) timepiece sold at Sotheby’s for £3,196,250 ($4,324,526), cementing its record as the world’s most expensive English watch. The timepiece charts both [mean-solar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar%5Ftime?ref=hyperallergic.com#Mean%5Fsolar%5Ftime) and [sidereal time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal%5Ftime?ref=hyperallergic.com).

A stash of [vintage cinema posters](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2017/sep/19/classic-film-posters-used-as-carpet-underlay-sold-for-72000?ref=hyperallergic.com) used as carpet underlay was sold at auction for £72,000 (\~$98,000). The [posters](https://www.rogersjones.co.uk/en/antiques-and-fine-art/265/2017-09-15?page=1&category=1930s%20%26%201940s%20cinema%20posters&ref=hyperallergic.com) were recovered by two builders during the renovation of a house in Wales in 1985.

[Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami](https://www.itk.ca/inaugural-inuit-cultural-repatriation-award-recognizes-work-to-rectify-cultural-appropriation/?ref=hyperallergic.com), Canada’s national Inuit group, presented the 2017 Cultural Repatriation Award to Chicago’s Field Museum and the Nunatsiavut government in Labrador. The award follows the return of 22 Inuit bodies that were exhumed in 1927 and 1928 by William Strong, an assistant curator at the museum.
