[Knight Landesman](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/25/nyregion/knight-landesman-artforum-sexual-harassment-lawsuit.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) resigned as co-publisher of *Artforum* hours after a former employee filed a lawsuit accusing him of groping and sexually harassing nine women. Amanda Schmitt, a curator and the director of programming and development for the UNTITLED art fair, filed a claim for $500,000 in damages with the State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Wednesday morning. In an earlier report published by [artnet](https://news.artnet.com/art-world/artforum-knight-landesman-accused-sexual-misconduct-1125749?ref=hyperallergic.com), several men and women voiced complaints “regarding unwanted touching, groping, and other inappropriate behavior, including requests for massages.” The same report indicated that a former employee had filed a claim for damages with *Artforum*. In response, *Artforum* [stated](https://www.artforum.com/news/id=71847?ref=hyperallergic.com) that the former employee’s “close friendship” with Landesman “took place well after she left *Artforum* in 2012,” a claim that is directly contradicted by Schmitt’s subsequent lawsuit, which alleges that Landesman’s harassment first began after she was hired as a circulation assistant in 2009\. On Wednesday evening, *Artnews* reported that [Michelle Kuo](http://www.artnews.com/2017/10/25/artforum-editor-in-chief-michelle-kuo-resigns-david-velasco-to-succeed-her/?ref=hyperallergic.com), *Artforum’*s editor-in-chief, had handed in her resignation a week prior on October 18.

A local chapter of the [United Daughters of the Confederacy](http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Group-sues-San-Antonio-over-removal-of-12306414.php?ref=hyperallergic.com) sued the city of San Antonio and several City Council members over the removal of a statue memorializing Confederate soldiers in Travis Park.

A 1908 bust of Napoleon by [Rodin](https://hyperallergic.com/rodin-bust-of-napoleon-borough-hall-new-jersey/) is to go on loan to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, three years after Mallory Mortillaro, a then newly hired archivist at the borough hall of Madison, New Jersey, noticed it in a meeting room and correctly attributed it to the artist.

In an internal email, Condé Nast International, the publisher of titles including *Vogue*, *Vanity Fair*, *GQ*, and *Glamour*, announced that it will no longer commission work from [Terry Richardson](http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-41736395?ref=hyperallergic.com). The photographer, who is known for his lurid and sexually explicit work, has faced a [stream of allegations](https://hyperallergic.com/132735/how-big-media-protects-a-big-dick-the-case-of-terry-richardson/) regarding sexual misconduct and exploitation since the early 2000s.

The [Nordic Museum](http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=478&artikel=6804617&ref=hyperallergic.com) in Stockholm began collecting stories of sexual harassment and abuse shared online with the viral hashtag [#MeToo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Me%5Ftoo%5F%28hashtag%29?ref=hyperallergic.com).

[John Baldessari](http://www.spruethmagers.com/exhibitions/462@@viewq0?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s second solo show with Sprüth Magers opened at the gallery’s Los Angeles location. The exhibition includes the artist’s *emoji paintings*, a new series of inkjet prints in which emojis are juxtaposed with snippets of seemingly random film dialogue.

Thomas Vonier, the president of the [American Institute of Architects](https://archinect.com/news/article/150033524/aia-makes-a-statement-against-u-s-withdrawal-from-unesco?ref=hyperallergic.com), issued a statement urging the US to continue working with UNESCO.

A group calling itself the [Monument Removal Brigade](https://hyperallergic.com/activists-splatter-roosevelt-monument-amnh/) claimed responsibility for vandalizing the Theodore Roosevelt monument outside the American Museum of Natural History.

Following a public hearing, the [Pittsburgh Art Commission](http://www.post-gazette.com/local/city/2017/10/25/Pittsburgh-art-commission-recommends-removal-controversial-Stephen-Foster-statue/stories/201710250193?ref=hyperallergic.com) recommended the public removal of Giuseppe Moretti’s [controversial statue](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen%5FFoster%5F%28sculpture%29?ref=hyperallergic.com) of American songwriter Stephen Foster. The sculpture is to be relocated to a private and “properly contextualized” location.

New York City Mayor [Bill de Blasio](https://hyperallergic.com/nyc-mayor-new-protections-for-loft-tenants-artists/) unveiled a proposal to overhaul the city’s Loft Law.

Mayor de Blasio’s [Commission on City Art, Monuments, and Markers](https://hyperallergic.com/nyc-statues-monuments-public-art-survey/) launched an [online public survey](http://www1.nyc.gov/site/monuments/index.page?ref=hyperallergic.com) to review possible public symbols of hate across the five boroughs.

Two members and one former member of the [Berkshire Museum](http://www.artnews.com/2017/10/26/second-suit-against-berkshire-museum-aims-to-stop-liquidation-sale-102617/?ref=hyperallergic.com) filed a lawsuit against the museum’s decision to deaccession works from its collection. Earlier in the week the museum announced that [Van Shields](http://www.berkshireeagle.com/stories/museum-chief-shields-on-sick-leave-through-2017,522695?ref=hyperallergic.com), the museum’s executive director, would undergo surgery for an undisclosed health issue, transferring leadership to co-directors Nina Garlington and Craig Langlois. Twenty-one of the 40 collection works consigned to [Sotheby’s](https://www.artsjournal.com/culturegrrl/2017/10/news-flash-berkshire-museums-head-on-medical-leave-21-of-40-consignments-pulled-from-sothebys-auctions.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) have been deleted from the auction’s online catalogue.

The [Mugrabi family](http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/family-sues-gain-access-100m-art-collection-article-1.3583756?ref=hyperallergic.com) sued Mana Contemporary, alleging that the company damaged works from the family’s art collection while also withholding access to 1,389 works of art. The suit centers on a dispute over a storage bill for $500,000\. The Mugrabi family claims that the art center agreed to store its collection for free.

A [petition](https://www.change.org/p/matthew-patrick-slam-nhs-uk-love-cinema-save-the-cinema-museum?ref=hyperallergic.com) was launched calling for the preservation of the [Cinema Museum](http://www.cinemamuseum.org.uk/?ref=hyperallergic.com) in London. In a [Facebook post](https://m.facebook.com/permalink.php?story%5Ffbid=1617709281605634&id=189154424461134&ref=hyperallergic.com), the museum revealed that its landlord, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, is planning the sell the building on the open market.

[Michelangelo Pistoletto](https://www.facebook.com/events/359428514482984/?action%5Fhistory=null) will roll a new version of “Sfera di Giornali (Newspaper Sphere)” along the streets of Cold Spring, New York on Saturday, November 4\. The event is a recreation of the artist’s 1967 performance in Turin, Italy.

A print from the 1964 edition of Marcel Duchamp’s “L.H.O.O.Q” was sold at [Sotheby’s](http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2017/collection-brandt-pf1746/lot.105.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) for €631,500 (\~$743,162).

Britain announced that it will transfer ownership of the wrecks of the [HMS Erebus and HMS Terror](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/23/britain-to-give-canada-recently-found-1800s-arctic-shipwrecks?ref=hyperallergic.com) — the ships of the ill-fated [Franklin expedition](https://hyperallergic.com/the-grisly-and-heroic-propaganda-of-the-doomed-franklin-expedition/) — to Canada.

The Gambrell Foundation donated a $10 million lead gift toward a major renovation of the [Queens University of Charlotte](http://www.queens.edu/news/102417-fineartsbuildinggift.html?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s fine arts building.

The [Seattle Art Museum](http://www.thestranger.com/slog/2017/10/26/25506455/culture-news-sam-gets-big-money-to-conserve-asian-art-some-awesome-art-and-performance-spaces-will-close-and-some-will-open?ref=hyperallergic.com) received a $3.5 million challenge grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The gift will be used to establish and endow the museum’s Asian Paintings Conservation Center.

The [Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art](https://www.aaa.si.edu/news/gerald-e-buck-endows-the-archives-of-american-arts-west-coast-collecting-program-with-gift-of?ref=hyperallergic.com) received a bequest of $2.5 million from the late Gerald E. Buck through the Buck Family Trust. The gift will endow the Archives’ collecting program on the West Coast.

The J.M. Smucker Company donated $1.1 million to the [Akron Art Museum](https://akronartmuseum.org/newsroom/inews-releasei-akron-art-museum-and-jm-smucker-company-partner-to-broaden-access-to-art/12145?ref=hyperallergic.com).
