“Salvator Mundi” (c. 1500) sold at [Christie’s](http://www.christies.com/features/Leonardo-and-Post-War-results-New-York-8729-1.aspx?sc%5Flang=en&ref=hyperallergic.com) for $450,312,500 (inc. buyer’s premium) after just under 20 minutes of bidding, becoming the [most expensive artwork](https://hyperallergic.com/leonardo-da-vincis-salvator-mundi-sells-400-million/) ever sold at auction. Christie’s hired an outside PR firm [for the first time](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/15/arts/design/leonardo-da-vinci-salvator-mundi-christies-auction.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) in order to conduct its marketing campaign — branded “[The last da Vinci](http://www.christies.com/features/The-last-da-Vinci-Salvator-Mundi-8598-3.aspx?ref=hyperallergic.com)” — which included a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7omwQLuGJQ&ref=hyperallergic.com) of viewers stunned in awe before the painting. The record price was set despite concerns regarding the precise attribution of the work from figures like [Michael Daley](http://artwatch.org.uk/author/artwatchuk/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Frank Zöllner](http://www.monopol-magazin.de/das-raetsel-um-leonardo-da-vincis-salvator-mundi?ref=hyperallergic.com), and [Jerry Saltz](http://www.vulture.com/2017/11/christies-says-this-painting-is-by-leonardo-i-doubt-it.html?ref=hyperallergic.com). A *Guardian* article published last month regarding [Walter Isaacson](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2017/oct/19/mystery-jesus-christ-orb-leonardo-da-vinci-salvator-mundi-painting?ref=hyperallergic.com)‘s new biography of Leonardo was later revised with an editor’s note explaining that the piece “is the subject of a legal complaint made on behalf of Christie’s International Plc.” Isaacson subsequently took to [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/walter.isaacson/posts/10155716425842456?pnref=story) to clarify his stance that the work was created by Leonardo.

The number of natural World Heritage sites imperiled by climate change has almost doubled in three years according to a new report by the [International Union for Conservation of Nature](https://www.iucn.org/news/secretariat/201711/number-natural-world-heritage-sites-affected-climate-change-nearly-doubles-three-years-%E2%80%93-iucn?ref=hyperallergic.com) (IUCN).

The NYPD are searching for a young woman filmed on in-store surveillance mailing back two photographs stolen from [MoMA PS1](https://www.amny.com/news/moma-ps-1-photographs-mailed-1.14944437?ref=hyperallergic.com). *AM New York* identified the two prints as works by Carolee Schneemann, whose current [retrospective](https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/3658?ref=hyperallergic.com) continues at the museum through March 11.

The late artist [Rosemarie Koczy](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/15/arts/design/rosemarie-koczy-holocaust.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) (1939–2007) allegedly faked her life story, according to a *New York Times* report by Annalisa Quinn. A team of German archivists working over the summer were unable to corroborate Koczy’s claim that she was imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps. The team found documents describing the family as Roman Catholic rather than Jewish. Koczy’s husband, Louis Pelosi, has disputed the claims, citing the family’s need to convert to Catholicism as a necessary step to elude the Nazis.

The [Old Vic](http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-42009596?ref=hyperallergic.com) claimed to have received 20 complaints regarding alleged sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by Kevin Spacey, who served as the theatre’s artistic director between 2004 and 2015.

A dozen men and women accused art collector [François Odermatt](http://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/enquetes/201711/15/01-5143586-inconduites-sexuelles-des-reproches-faits-a-un-important-collectionneur.php?ref=hyperallergic.com) of sexual misconduct in allegations published by Canadian newspaper *La Presse.*

DC Comics editor [Eddie Berganza](http://ew.com/books/2017/11/13/dc-comics-fires-editor-eddie-berganza-over-sexual-harassment-accusations/?ref=hyperallergic.com) was fired after [Buzzfeed](https://www.buzzfeed.com/jtes/dc-comics-editor-eddie-berganza-sexual-harassment?utm%5Fterm=.aomKGWNoW&ref=hyperallergic.com#.tcy2Elzgl) published a report detailing multiple sexual harassment allegations.

The fourth and [last missing piece](http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2017/11/14/last-piece-of-missing-magritte-painting-the-enchanted-pose-found-in-brussels%5Fa%5F23277349/?ref=hyperallergic.com) of Rene Magritte’s “[The Enchanted Pose](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The%5FEnchanted%5FPose?ref=hyperallergic.com)” (1927) was discovered at a museum in Brussels with the use of x-ray imaging. Other sections were discovered at [Norwich Castle ](http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-norfolk-38735156?ref=hyperallergic.com)(January) and the [Museum of Modern Art](https://www.moma.org/explore/inside%5Fout/2013/10/31/the-discovery-of-magrittes-the-enchanted-pose/?ref=hyperallergic.com) (2013).

[Marina Abramović](https://hyperallergic.com/marina-abramovic-institute-statement-new-york-post/) published a statement in response to the *New York Post*‘s story on her Kickstarter project and the scrapping of the planned Marina Abramović Institute (MAI).

Protestors demonstrated outside [Sotheby’s](https://hyperallergic.com/berkshire-museum-sothebys-protest/) to demand the return of works from the Berkshire Museum’s collection. The works were withdrawn from sale on Monday evening after a [preliminary injunction](https://hyperallergic.com/berkshire-museum-auction-appeal-sothebys/) was granted by Massachusetts appeals court judge Justice Joseph Trainor.

[Walmart](https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/japanese-american-incarceration%5Fus%5F5a0c99a9e4b0b37054f4119c?ref=hyperallergic.com) removed a selection of posters from its website after author [Jamie Ford](https://twitter.com/JamieFord/status/929396405864513536?ref=hyperallergic.com) identified the images as photographs of Japanese-American incarceration during World War II. The posters were described on Walmart’s website as “the perfect Wall Art for any home, bedroom, playroom, classroom, dorm room or office workspace.”

The [Smithsonian](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smithsonian/smithsonian-anthology-of-hip-hop-and-rap?ref=hyperallergic.com) raised over $341,000 on Kickstarter for an anthology of hip-hop and rap, over $118,000 in excess of its $250,000 goal.

[EarthCam](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzNKaV8P4aQ&ref=hyperallergic.com) published a 3 minute time-lapse video documenting the eight-year construction of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
