Artists Chuck Close, Laddie Johnson Dill, and the Sam Francis Foundation [lost a class-action lawsuit](https://www.sfchronicle.com/art/article/Artists-Chuck-Close-and-Laddie-John-Dill-Sam-13056736.php?ref=hyperallergic.com) against the auction houses Sotheby’s and Christie’s and the online site eBay. As a result, art collectors, dealers, and auction houses are no longer obligated to share proceeds from sales of works with the artists. An art display featuring an altered US flag [has been taken down](https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/university-kansas-removes-altered-us-flag-art-56524757?ref=hyperallergic.com) at the University of Kansas due to “public safety concerns.” The piece, “Untitled (Flag 2),” is part of an art project called “Pledges of Allegiance” and was created by New York-based artist Josephine Meckseper. Five Picasso lithographs from his *Imaginary Portraits* series [went missing](http://www.latimes.com/business/la-ca-cm-times-art-20180712-htmlstory.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) from the *Los Angeles Times* offices at some point between 2014 and 2018\. The lithographs, along with other art in the building, was transferred to Tribune when it bought Times Mirror in 2000, and in 2014, after the company’s bankruptcy, the newly-formed Tribune Media received the collection and has now sold it at auction. A large, black, granite [sarcophagus](https://www.sciencealert.com/huge-mystery-sarcophagus-unearthed-in-egypt-alexandria?ref=hyperallergic.com) has been discovered at an excavation in Alexandria, Egypt, along with an alabaster head found in the same tomb. It is still unknown who is inside. [Suspected Banksy art](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-birmingham-44759130?ref=hyperallergic.com) appeared overnight in Birmingham, UK.
