## Accolades:

The winning design of the **2018 Theodora Niemeijer prize** has been released. Swedish artist **Josefin Arnell**‘s THE TICK is on view in the Netherland’s Van Abbemuseum’s *The Eye* (Het Oog). The **Wythe Hotel** in Brooklyn has announced the line-up for its 2019 Artist Residency Program. The Wythe Hotel’s Artist Residency Program is a line-up of free one-night performances in the hotel. **American Medium** gallery has announced that it will close. The Chelsea gallery made the announcement with an email reading solely: “american medium has come to an end,” linking to Semisonic’s 1998 song “[Closing Time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGytDsqkQY8&ref=hyperallergic.com).” \[via email announcement\]

**Frieze** has announced the artists participating in **Frieze Projects** at the inaugural edition of **Frieze Los Angeles**. Polish art collector **Grażyna Kulczyk** has opened an experimental art space and contemporary art museum in a 12th-century monastery and 19th-century brewery in a small town in the Swiss Alps with a population of 200\. \[[Swiss Info](https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/muzeum-susch%5Fmodern-art-museum-opens-in-swiss-mountain-village/44645720?ref=hyperallergic.com)\]

## Opportunities:

The **NYC Department of Cultural Affairs** and **NYC Parks**, along with the **Committee to Empower Voices for Healing and Equity**, are seeking artists to design a new monument addressing the legacy of **J. Marion Sims**, a physician who violently experimented on women of color in his gynecological research. They have announced the project “**Beyond Sims**,” to commission a work to fill the space formerly occupied by a statue in Harlem of Sims, which was removed in April 2018 after protests by NYC activists.
