TURIN — Everything in this house moves … I’m living with a bunch of Italian artists in Torino (aka Turin), Italy. Outside, there are the diurnal tides of [Porta Palazzo](http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta%5FPalazzo?ref=hyperallergic.com), Europe’s largest open-air market existing for over 150 years. Inside, we have a sea of peoples and energies contributing to a mood of neo-realism and contemporary art.

Vecchio Merda, all ladies Torinese danzband♥

Italy is completely broke(n) right now, talented young Italian artists are jobless and moving to Torino. We have plenty of time on our hands. Clusters of us live within a kilometer of each other and share most of our meals together. We have also created project spaces in the neighborhood such as [GUM studio](http://www.gumstudio.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [Cripta747](http://cripta747.blogspot.it/?ref=hyperallergic.com). These conditions create fires that lead to unpredictable artworks (and life situations).

This week in Torino begins, [Artissima](http://www.artissima.it/frontend/cosa-e-artissima/?lang=%5Fen&ref=hyperallergic.com), the region’s annual contemporary art fair (November 9–11, 2012). One of its collateral projects is called [Artissima LIDO](http://www.artissima.it/frontend/artissima-in-citta/artissima-lido/?ref=hyperallergic.com) and is located here in Porta Palazzo. The curator, [Sarah Cosulich Canarutto](http://www.e-flux.com/announcements/sarah-cosulich-canarutto-appointed-artistic-director/?ref=hyperallergic.com), decided to invite five independent art spaces from around the world to do projects in five of our local museums and institution: Museo Diffuso della Resistena, Museo di Antichità, Archivio di Stato, Chiesa del SS. Sudario, and MAO Museo d’arte Orientale.

For the next few days, I will send daily reports of local movements surrounding and involving the fair.

What to expect: A personal account of the actions of local artists and spaces in the neighborhood; a critical eye on the professionally presented artworks and projects; and, an earnest search for dance and movement-based works.
