Previous projects have involved recreating meals from Marinetti’s Futurist cookbook, or filling the gallery with purifying ozone gas. For their residency at the MAK Center, the pair present [*Succulents*](http://makcenter.org/programming/succulents/?ref=hyperallergic.com), “a delirious *mise-en-scène,* confronting the therapeutic aspirations and concomitant ideas of hygiene” inherent in R.M. Schindler’s pristine Mackey apartments. Produced in collaboration with artists Cayetano Ferrer, Bonny Poon and Eric Sidner, the reception will feature a new installment of Poon’s ongoing piece *Body Movement Workshop* (2010– ). ![](http://hyperallergic.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/hyperbullet.png) ## Close-Ups & Two Shots: Judith Eisler When: Thursday, February 19, 6–8pm Where: GAVLAK Los Angeles (1034 N Highland Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles) Cinema is an art of speed and movement, but films are essentially just a series of still images strung together, hence the term “motion pictures.” Judith Eisler’s paintings in [*Close-Ups & Two Shots*](http://www.gavlakgallery.com/exhibitions/close-ups-and-two-shots-judith-eisler?ref=hyperallergic.com) capitalize on this idea, freezing cinematic moments of particular tension. From classic Hollywood heroine Gloria Swanson, to Fassbinder’s teutonic drama queens, Eisler lingers on their visages, revealing emotional depth beneath their fleeting, superficial facades. ![Amir H. Fallah: Perfect Strangers & Alice Wang When: Reception, Saturday, February 21, 6–9pm Where: 18th Street Arts Center (1639 18th Street, Santa Monica, California) For his Artist Lab Residency at the 18th Street Arts Center, Amir H. Fallah has invited young Santa Monica residents into the studio to create group self-portraits based on objects that they find meaningful. With that in mind, East of Borneo launched their [Unforgetting L.A. Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon](http://www.eastofborneo.org/unforgetting?ref=hyperallergic.com) in 2013 to correct omissions and oversights in Los Angeles’s art history. The latest meet up will focus on architecture and design, but participants are free to work on any topic they feel needs better online representation. WIth experimental classical ensemble [wild Up](http://wildup.la/?ref=hyperallergic.com), they present [First Take 15](http://theindustryla.org/projects/project%5Ffirsttake15.php?ref=hyperallergic.com), a free performance of six operatic works-in-progress. Composed of found objects and industrial materials like cement and spray paint, Pylypchuk’s crude works riff on assemblage art, while also resembling a troubled 6-year old’s drawings come to life.
