Founded in 1981 as the first of its kind, [The Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts](http://bit.ly/2fYAvRO?ref=hyperallergic.com) low-residency MFA brings together students and faculty in 6 disciplines: painting, film/video, sculpture, photography, music/sound, and writing for a unique summer program. Students are immersed in a diverse community of artists for three 8-week summer sessions interspersed with winter independent study.

Each summer, Bard MFA welcomes a faculty of over 60 accomplished artists, to engage in critiques, seminars, caucuses and individual conferences with students. They are joined by visiting artists, representing all six disciplines. Summer 2017 visiting artists were: Kevin Beasley, Nicole Eisenman, Fanny Howe, Okkyung Lee, Lisa Oppenheim, and Raha Raissnia.
