Founded in 1981 as the first of its kind, [The Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts](http://bit.ly/2QEJWFI?ref=hyperallergic.com) low-residency MFA brings together students and faculty in 6 disciplines: painting, film/video, sculpture, photography, music/sound and writing for a unique summer program. Students are immersed in a diverse community of artists for three 8-week summer sessions interspersed with winter independent study. Summer sessions take place on the Bard College campus, 2 hours north of NYC on the banks of the Hudson River.

Each summer, [Bard MFA](http://bit.ly/2QEJWFI?ref=hyperallergic.com) welcomes a faculty of over 50 accomplished artists, to engage in critiques, seminars, caucuses and individual conferences with our students. They are joined by visiting artists, representing all six disciplines. Summer 2019 visiting artists were: Moyra Davey, Liz Magor, Mattin, Jennifer Moon, Jennifer Packer and Cedar Sigo. 2020 will mark the 40th Anniversary of Bard MFA.
