# Bringing Pop Art to Life

Portuguese artist [Pantonio](http://www.pantonio.net/?ref=hyperallergic.com) has transformed the scene of a car crash in Lisbon into a Pop Art-style explosion reminiscent of [Roy Lichtenstein](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy%5FLichtenstein?ref=hyperallergic.com). The street “tribute” seems appropriate considering Lichtenstein himself freely transformed the imagery he found in comic books into fine art — though after I discovered the blog [Deconstructing Lichtenstein](http://davidbarsalou.homestead.com/LICHTENSTEINPROJECT.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) I sometimes wonder if “transform” isn’t the right word for what the Pop artist did.
