The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Department of Sculpture + Extended Media’s highly competitive two-year MFA program has been the top ranked sculpture program since 2003 by U.S. News & World Report. The program attracts talented and inquisitive students from around the world, who are drawn to our exceptional resources, celebrated [faculty](http://bit.ly/2yhuJ2d?ref=hyperallergic.com), and the international visibility of the department’s [alumni](http://bit.ly/2ym9G04?ref=hyperallergic.com).

Students are equipped with large studio spaces, state-of-the-art facilities and the time to pursue independently determined goals. They receive full tuition support, paid assistantships, research travel grants, and residency program and major exhibition opportunities. With 24-hour access to a media lab, fabrication shops and a foundry, students can indulge in the widest possible range of making. All of this takes place in a supportive environment where experimentation, self-motivation and intellectual rigor are expected.

The program offers close mentorship by sculpture faculty, including Corin Hewitt, Michael Jones McKean, Kendall Buster, Massa Lemu, Lily Cox-Richard, Matt King, and Lupe Maravilla. Recent visiting faculty include A.L Steiner, Sable Elyse Smith, Lee Relvas, Clifford Owens, and Gordon Hall.
