Yesterday, PBS talk show host, Charlie Rose, interviewed musician Jay-Z at the Brooklyn Museum. The hip hop star is promoting his new book, [Decoded](http://www.amazon.com/Decoded-Jay-Z/dp/1400068924?ref=hyperallergic.com), which, in addition to telling his personal story and decoding his lyric, includes unconventional typography, line drawings, and photographs, which according to its Amazon review emphasizes “the author’s message that rap is a form that transcends and defies easy categorization.”

MTV has [a report](http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1652674/20101119/jay%5Fz.jhtml?ref=hyperallergic.com) from the event, as does [*The Brooklyn Paper*](http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/33/48/all%5Fbb%5Fjayzevent%5F2010%5F11%5F26%5Fbk.html?comm=1&ref=hyperallergic.com), which includes a poignant quote by Jay-Z, who spoke about hip-hop music and its importance, “Hip-hop is poetry … I’m telling the story of a generation of people who grew up through an era that was very difficult.”
