# Chautauqua School of Art's Multidisciplinary Residency Program Is Open for Applications

The [Chautauqua School of Art](http://bit.ly/2RImYg1?ref=hyperallergic.com), a centerpiece of the renowned [Chautauqua Institution](http://bit.ly/2RHUmUg?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s Visual Arts program (VACI), is an incubator of inclusive and expansive programming in the visual arts, located in a beautiful lakeside community in southwestern New York State. The [VACI Experience](http://bit.ly/37nrqYc?ref=hyperallergic.com) is composed of classes, workshops, 24-hour private studio access, and one-on-one time with mentors covering all media. The curriculum intentionally breaks apart the traditional methods that silo disciplines from each other and instead embraces a full range of studio and pragmatic studies, such as professional development for artists, the art of pedagogy, writing in the 21st century, and the relevance of art history today.

The [2020 artists-in-residence program at VACI](http://bit.ly/2RImYg1?ref=hyperallergic.com) welcomes students and emerging artists who have yet to receive wide recognition of their work, including artists as young as juniors in college. Artists who engage in all media are encouraged to apply. This is an intergenerational environment that promotes collaboration, exchange, and an openness to other art forms at Chautauqua, which include dance, theater, music, and more.

The program has a roster of diverse and multidisciplinary [core mentors](http://bit.ly/37okAS3?ref=hyperallergic.com) whose work with students is complemented by visiting artists who will hold technical workshops and give lectures through the summer. Core mentors conduct classes in their specialties as well as host weekly one-on-one conversations with students and emerging artists.
