# The History and Future of Feminist Resistance in Art

For half a century, feminist art has incorporated radical critiques of various forms of inequality and injustice, from political corruption to sexism in the art world itself. As part of the 106th annual [College Art Association conference](http://www.collegeart.org/programs/conference/?ref=hyperallergic.com), the [Feminist Art Project at Rutgers University](http://feministartproject.rutgers.edu/calendar/view/5778/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will be presenting a day-long symposium, [Feminism and the State: Art, Politics, and Resistance](https://www.moca.org/program/what-is-contemporary-feminism-and-the-state-art-politics-and-resistance?ref=hyperallergic.com). Organized by curators [Jamillah James](https://www.theicala.org/en/press-releases/5-ica-la-appoints-jamillah-james-as-curator?ref=hyperallergic.com) of the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA), and [Lanka Tattersall](https://news.artnet.com/exhibitions/moca-la-welcomes-new-assistant-curator-228010?ref=hyperallergic.com) of Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the event will focus on contemporary forms of feminist resistance and their historical precedents. Speakers will also talk about strategies beyond art — including archiving, the internet, and collective groups — to resist patriarchy.

Discussion topics range from “Borders, Bodies, and Access to Knowledge as Power,” to “The Web as Political Space,” and “Activism, Representation, and Collective Space,” with a wide variety of panelists including artists [Gelare Khoshgazaran](http://gelarekhoshgozaran.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Martine Syms](http://martinesyms.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and [Guadalupe Rosales](http://www.veteranasandrucas.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), writer [Litia Perta](http://www.litiaperta.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), curator [Ceci Moss](https://amillionkeys.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and Sarah Williams of the [Women’s Center for Creative Work](http://womenscenterforcreativework.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com). The keynote speaker will be artist [Martha Rosler](http://www.martharosler.net/?ref=hyperallergic.com), whose work and writings have been influential documents of feminist art. The event is free and open to the public. Priority tickets are available to MOCA members one hour before the program. Non-member tickets will be released 15 minutes before the program.
