The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced that Leonard A. Lauder has made a major donation of Cubist art that will transform New York’s largest museum into a major center for Cubist art. The pledged gift is comprised of 78 works, including 33 works by Pablo Picasso, 17 by Georges Braque, 14 by Juan Gris, and 14 by Fernand Léger.

The Decapitation of Margaret Thatcher, the Statue
When I was in London last January, I had the chance to visit a hidden gem — well, depending on how you define “gem” — of a sculpture in the Guildhall Art Gallery in central London. Neil Simmons’ marble likeness of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has a very pretentious (as you might expect) name, “Rt. Hon. The Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven, L.G., O.M., F.R.S.” (2001), and it sits in the corner of this small art museum with an excellent collection of Pre-Raphaelite painting.

In the Crosshairs: Art in Dialogue with Hunting
PARIS — When I stepped into the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, I knew I would be seeing a lot of taxidermy trophies and guns in this museum of the hunt and nature, but I wasn’t expecting contemporary art. However, since its renovation in 2007, the museum in Paris’ Marais neighborhood has embedded installations and works of art in its stately space, a move which definitely lightens what could be very dated-feeling period rooms where stuffed bears and foxes rest alongside antique furniture and old oil paintings of hunting scenes.

CHICAGO — In the GIF world of twohundredfiftysixcolors, there is no time to process visual imagery; viewers are left with reaction options to each short GIF much like those found on a Buzzfeed post. It’s all <3, LOL, WIN, OMG, CUTE, WTF, UNBELIEVABLE, SCARY, FAIL TRASHY, OLD, EW, <heart break! or whatever and then it’s over. Even for a person who spends many hours a day at a computer, this film is torturous, and a painfully accurate experience of today’s over-saturated internet media environment. Certain gifs will keep playing over and over in your mind long after the credits role. It is a perfect portrait of the Internet world we live in.
