She’s talking about the late works of David Hockney, who passed away last month at 88, specifically a shimmering, digitally stitched scroll encircling the dim walls of the Serpentine Gallery. Was David Hockney taking the piss out of this event by presenting an even longer 295-foot (\~90-meter) composite iPad “painting,” titled “A Year in Normandie” (2020–21), at Serpentine Galleries in March? Hockney, who died last month at age 88, argued against the Bayeux Tapestry’s loan from the French government due to the risk to the object, a concern expressed by numerous historians and scholars. Yet his Serpentine show, entitled *A Year in Normandie and Some Other Thoughts About Painting*, cites Hockney’s “endless invention” through more than 100 printed iPad paintings digitally “stitched” together. I have not yet seen the film - probably will - but know the story pretty well. It is sad Zeus gets reduced to a mono-theistic "proclaimer", as he is so much more complicated than that. Sadder still, it sounds like Athena, (who is more powerful than her father after all) doesn't have a more substantial role. Athena was Odysseus's main protector after all (and sometime-punisher). It strikes me as odd that she would show up to remind Odysseus of the carnage that she condoned: she was on his side. Athena as a young (Pallas) victim? Don't think she would like that portrayal! This is a gal who was born with her armor on! I ain't no Homeric scholar, but I don't recall that scene in any written or BBC version. Maybe I missed it.
