# DEMOnstrate Your Creativity at This Year’s Critical Halloween Costume Competition

Halloween is next weekend, and what better way to get into the spirit of things than celebrating a feared ghost of art and architecture at Storefront for Art and Architecture’s annual [Critical Halloween](http://storefrontnews.org/programming/critical-halloween-demo/?ref=hyperallergic.com)?! This year’s demon is “DEMO.” From acts of collective will (DEMOnstration) to institutional erasure (DEMOlition), DEMO invites guests to intellectually examine ideas, issues, and objects in art, architecture, and design related to the topic.

Hyperallergic is once again partnering with Storefront for Art and Architecture to host an online DEMOcratic People’s Choice Award in addition to a juried contest during the event. We’ll be posting costume photos from the event here and will hold a weeklong poll, where you’ll be able to cast your vote for favorites from the evening.

Last year’s theme was “I-Relevance.” [Some very amazing highlights](https://hyperallergic.com/pure-shit-wins-peoples-choice-vote-in-storefronts-critical-halloween-2014/) include “Michael Jackson & Bubbles,” “Oscar Selfie,” “The \[Dead\] Print Media,” and last year’s People’s Choice winner, “Pure Shit,” which made reference to architect [Frank Gehry’s infamous middle finger gesture](https://twitter.com/imartinrodrigo/status/525299280522006528?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Etfw&ref=hyperallergic.com) at a press conference in Spain.

This year, we invite you to DEMOnstrate your creativity and DIY artistry in costume construction within this theme. Think [demonstration](https://hyperallergic.com/gowanus-rallies-to-support-artists-losing-affordable-workspaces/) and [demolition](http://hyperallergic.com/93747/5-pointz-supporters-rally-against-impending-demolition/). Winners will be featured on Hyperallergic.

Critical Halloween is a party, an intellectual debate, a costume competition, and a space for the expression of radical thought. Critical Halloween is a space of reflection and action based upon the belief that critical ideas have a place within even the most seemingly carefree manifestations of our culture: the Halloween costume party. This is a benefit for Storefront for Art and Architecture.
