Six-time Grammy winner Terence Blanchard, the E-Collective, the Turtle Island Quartet, Professor Andrew F. Scott, and the ATEC LightSquad perform [*Presence of Absence, Gordon Parks: An Empathic Lens*](https://bit.ly/3i6L6qi?ref=hyperallergic.com) at the University of Texas at Dallas on April 9, 2022\. The multi-genre collaboration is a fusion of jazz and visual artistry that transforms the concert experience.

Transformational experiences are the norm at the [School of ATEC](https://bit.ly/3CN7luF?ref=hyperallergic.com). In their labs, studios, and classrooms faculty luminaries foster artistry, cultivate techniques, and stretch imaginations. ATEC faculty and student creatives form a global network, iterating and elevating to redefine culture and create new forms of expression.

ATEC Professor [Andrew F. Scott](https://afsart.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a multimedia artist who directs the [3D Studio](https://bit.ly/34KQLiL?ref=hyperallergic.com) and the ATEC LightSquad. *Presence of Absence* is his latest collaboration with Terence Blanchard. Scott is currently curating the closing night of [*Aurora Dallas*](https://dallasaurora.com/Video-Art-Nights?ref=hyperallergic.com), featuring a lineup of UT Dallas professors.

Professor [xtine burrough](http://www.missconceptions.net/?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a hybrid artist who uses remix to engage networked audiences in critical participation at the intersection of media art and digital poetry. burrough’s solo exhibition with members from LabSynthE, [*Ceremonial Techne*](https://guides.nyu.edu/blog/Bobst-Gallery-Exhibition-2021-22-Ceremonial-Techne?ref=hyperallergic.com), synthesizes art and technology with participatory methods at NYU’s Mamdouha Bobst Gallery.

Professor [Dean Terry](http://www.deanterry.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a transmedia artist and creative director of [therefore](https://www.studiotherefore.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com). Terry’s projects have been covered by CNN, NPR, the LA Times, BBC, WSJ, ABC News, Vice, and many others. His project [*The Alexa Dialogues*](https://www.studiotherefore.com/alexa-dialogues?ref=hyperallergic.com), an exploration of our growing dependence on artificial intelligence, sold out three nights at AT&T Performing Arts Center.

ATEC faculty produce projects like these in collaboration with student artists like 2019 Sony Alpha Female Creator-in-Resident and MFA student [Nitashia Johnson](https://www.nitashiajohnson.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com). Together they explore “how to make things better” transforming communities that experience their creativity.
