# Celebrating the Voices and Art of Women Who "Don't Shut Up"

Recent movements including #MeToo, #NeverthelessShePersisted, and #TimesUp have amplified the voices of many women — but as recent studies and news stories have suggested, the [art world](https://hyperallergic.com/artforum-knight-landesman-continue-to-fight-sexual-harassment-related-case/) is [changing all too slowly](https://hyperallergic.com/417356/art-by-women-gender-study-sexism/). On Wednesday, in honor of Women’s History Month, feminist art space [Ceres Gallery](http://www.ceresgallery.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will host a conversation and visual presentation highlighting the work of women artists and activists, and imagining new ways to make more women’s voices heard.

The Wednesday event is dubbed “[Don’t Shut Up](http://www.ceresgallery.org/dontshut%20up%5Fflyer.pdf?ref=hyperallergic.com).” It was developed as a continuation of discussions and exhibitions last summer, from San Diego-based [Feminist Image Group](http://fig-art.blogspot.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and will begin with a panel conversation between Katharine Bodde of the [New York Civil Liberties Union](https://www.nyclu.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), Brittany Brathwaite of [Girls for Gender Equity](http://www.ggenyc.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and artist and [blogger](http://joannematteraartblog.blogspot.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) [Joanne Mattera](https://www.joannemattera.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com). In addition to addressing how best to raise up a range of women’s voices — through activism and politics, but also in visual art and the field of culture more broadly — their conversation will be accompanied by a projection of artworks by more than 60 women artists.
