# 60 Performers Reclaim the Streets of Downtown LA

Our nation’s streets and those of countries around the world have been activated as sites of outrage in recent years, as citizens have gathered to protest new regimes, restricted freedoms, and the abuse of power by those in positions of authority. Inspired by these communal acts of resistance, French artist [Lola Gonzàlez](http://lola-gonzalez.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will stage a collaborative performance with choreographer [Oguri](http://lightningshadow.com/Oguri.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) and composer [Paul Chavez](https://flaxfoundation.org/people/paul-chavez/?ref=hyperallergic.com) against the backdrop of downtown Los Angeles as part of [her residency at FLAX](https://flaxfoundation.org/initiative/lola-gonzalez/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

Titled “[The distance is beautiful. La distance la plus courte entre deux points n’est pas une ligne droite](https://flaxfoundation.org/initiative/the-distance-is-beautiful/?ref=hyperallergic.com),” the event will feature a cast of 60 performers, both professionals and amateurs, who will march from [four meeting points](https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1mm-14QyrZU8eYlzo8OYtQ2YPBlM&ll=34.05480851385682%2C-118.24757261919478&z=13&ref=hyperallergic.com) to gather at [Grand Park](http://grandparkla.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), one of the rare human-scale, public gathering spots in this notoriously pedestrian-averse city. Once assembled, they will converge on the Park’s Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain, where they will enact a series of individual and collective actions. Spectators are invited to attend the free performance at Grand Park at 7:30pm, or follow the performers along [their routes](https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1mm-14QyrZU8eYlzo8OYtQ2YPBlM&ll=34.05480851385682%2C-118.24757261919478&z=13&ref=hyperallergic.com) beginning at 6:45pm.
