You know the recession is getting bad when you read things like this from [Reuters](http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/17/us-finearts-netherlands-museums-idUSTRE77G38220110817?ref=hyperallergic.com):

> Rotterdam’s Wereldmuseum plans to sell its African and American treasures to cover funding shortfalls made more likely by the economic crisis in Europe and a planned cut in state subsidies to the arts starting in 2013.

*Yikes*. It’ll be interesting to see where these objects end up, and, in the process, it may tell us a little something about the state of the world’s finances.
