# Experiment and Take Risks in Carnegie Mellon’s Top-Ranked Interdisciplinary MFA Program

Housed within one of the most respected research universities in the United States, the [MFA program at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Art](https://bit.ly/3eHeepU?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a three-year, interdisciplinary, experimental program that provides its students with a challenging and supportive context in which to expand and develop their work and thinking as artists. The program views artmaking as a vital social, critical, and intellectual pursuit.

Prospective students are invited to join Carnegie Mellon for an [MFA Virtual Open House](https://bit.ly/3TyDqh5?ref=hyperallergic.com) on November 17 at 11am (EST). The program will feature an introduction from the Head of School Charlie White, discussion of the program’s structure and curriculum by the MFA Director Katherine Hubbard and members of the Core Faculty, a virtual tour of the graduate facility, and ample time to ask questions.

The MFA cohort, limited to [18 students](https://bit.ly/3eHeBAO?ref=hyperallergic.com), works with highly active faculty members who possess a diverse set of expertise. [Four core faculty members](https://bit.ly/3Tgd0ky?ref=hyperallergic.com) — along with the School of Art’s additional [18 full-time faculty](https://bit.ly/3MIivGa?ref=hyperallergic.com) — provide extensive support and mentorship for each student. The MFA program’s three-year structure allows students ample opportunity to experiment, take risks, conduct research, and explore all a research university has to offer.

The program is housed in a [new facility](https://bit.ly/3DaH8bi?ref=hyperallergic.com) where students have large, individual studios, as well as common study and community areas. Throughout all three years, graduate students have opportunities for critique and studio visits with national and international visiting artists, curators, and critics and access to state-of-the-art facilities, encompassing both traditional and new media. All students, regardless of their background or citizenship status, receive generous, guaranteed financial support in the form of partial or full tuition scholarships.
