# Dozens of Museums and Libraries Offer Free Downloadable Coloring Books

This week, Hyperallergic has told you about museums that you can [tour virtually from home](https://hyperallergic.com/2500-virtual-museum-tours-google-arts-culture/),[ “viral” movies](https://hyperallergic.com/viral-and-disease-films-streaming/) you can stream, [and research archives](https://hyperallergic.com/nypl/) you can browse while you’re practicing “social distancing.” Now, we have another good one for you — a collection of [unique coloring books](http://library.nyam.org/colorourcollections/?ref=hyperallergic.com) based on the collections of famous libraries and archives that you can download for free now.

Since 2016, the [New York Academy of Medicine](https://www.nyam.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) has been inviting libraries, archives, and cultural institutions from around the world to provide printable PDF pages based on their collections for free download. More than 100 organizations answered the call under the hashtag [#ColorOurCollections](https://twitter.com/hashtag/colorourcollections?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Ehashtag&ref=hyperallergic.com). Participating institutions include the [University of Oxford](https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/%5F%5Fdata/assets/pdf%5Ffile/0011/197453/2016-Colouring-Book.pdf?ref=hyperallergic.com), the [New York Botanical Garden](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8O7MTiZdDjnTk1PTlRjMU1PcTQ/view?ref=hyperallergic.com), and the [Biodiversity Heritage Library](https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/collection/ColorOurCollections?ref=hyperallergic.com), among many others.

Made up of images from the Getty Museum and the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, this book is divided into four themes: beauty, longing, strength, and death. The book also provides links to the original artworks for inspiration.

## [Europeana](https://blog.europeana.eu/tag/colouring-book/?ref=hyperallergic.com)

Created by the European Union, [Europeana](https://www.europeana.eu/portal/en/about.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a web portal containing digitalized museum collections from more than 3,000 institutions across the continent. This particular coloring book is dedicated to women’s history in Europe, from the first medieval depiction of a female dentist to suffrage posters.

Shakespeare’s life was marked by the Great Plague of London (1665-1666) which led, among other calamities, to the [closing of theaters in London](https://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/sep/24/shakespeares-great-escape-plague-1606--james-shapiro?ref=hyperallergic.com). Now, you can add color to covers of his famous plays.

## [Russian State Library](http://library.nyam.org/colorourcollections/russian-state-library-coloring-book-2020/?ref=hyperallergic.com)

The Russian State Library is the largest library in Russia and the second largest library in the world. It provides images of famous ballerinas for coloring, drawn from the library’s archives.
