# From Cybernetics to Museology, a Series of Talks and Performances Links Art and Science

There has long been a connection between [art and technology](http://www.lacma.org/LAB?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Los Angeles, due in part to the proximity of scientific organizations like NASA’s [Jet Propulsion Laboratory](https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/?ref=hyperallergic.com) and the innovation-embracing film industry. With the aim of exploring these links, the Pasadena Arts Council has organized a free two-day symposium, [Free Radicals: Evolving Perspectives on the Convergence of Art & Science,](https://www.pasadenaartscouncil.org/programs/axs-symposium/?ref=hyperallergic.com) this coming weekend.

A diverse series of talks and performances will focus on cybernetics, astronomy, Earth sciences, media archeology, and museum studies. Participating artists include [Christina Ondrus](http://www.christinaondrus.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Metabolic Studio](http://www.metabolicstudio.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Sarah Rara](http://www.sarahrara.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Channing Hansen](https://hammer.ucla.edu/made-in-la-2014/channing-hansen/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and others. Saturday’s keynote speaker is Margaret Wertheim, who has written on the relationship between physics, religion, and culture in books such as [*Pythagoras’ Trousers*](https://www.amazon.com/dp/0393317242/?tag=hyperallergic-20&ref=hyperallergic.com) and [*Physics on the Fringe*](https://www.amazon.com/dp/0802715133/?tag=hyperallergic-20&ref=hyperallergic.com)*.* The group exhibition [*Eclipse*](http://www.artcenter.edu/connect/events/eclipse.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) will also be on view, which pairs works of contemporary art with historical and astronomical artifacts from the Carnegie Observatories, Huntington Library, and elsewhere.
