# In Aftermath of Tragic Accident, a Fundraiser for Family of SVA Art Prof Ron Baron

In the aftermath of a [tragic Thanksgiving accident](http://www.dailyfreeman.com/general-news/20131129/columbia-county-girl-14-remains-hospitalized-after-crash-that-killed-5-year-old-sister?ref=hyperallergic.com), a [fundraiser](http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/ruby-s-return/124710?ref=hyperallergic.com) is being held for the family of artist and longtime School of Visual Arts faculty member [Ron Baron](http://www.ronbaron.net/?ref=hyperallergic.com). The initiative, which is being circulated widely in the New York art community, aims to raise $75,000 for the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) retrofitting of Baron and his wife Irit Baniel’s Williamsburg home, as well as to help them acquire a handicap-accessible vehicle. These needs have arisen due to the permanent spinal column damage suffered by their daughter Ruby-Joy, 14, in the accident, which also claimed the life of their 5-year-old daughter Naomi.

The campaign has already raised almost $12,000, and can be accessed [on the online fundraising platform You Caring](http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/ruby-s-return/124710?ref=hyperallergic.com).
