Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) announces its annual Alive With Art benefit on May 15, 2018 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Building 77\. BAC is thrilled to honor **New York City Council Majority Leader** [**Laurie A. Cumbo**](https://on.nyc.gov/2qwA7vK?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [**Sugar Hill Capital Partners**](http://bit.ly/2JIWru0?ref=hyperallergic.com) for their contributions to Brooklyn’s cultural landscape.

The first woman of color to hold her title, City Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo is a leading advocate for cultural funding for communities most in need of support. Her many contributions include the anti-gun violence initiative Art A Catalyst For Change, providing support to organizations using art to raise awareness of gun violence.

In 2013, Sugar Hill Capital Partners launched their Studio Program in support of New York City’s artists. This innovative social impact initiative converts unused building spaces into affordable art studios, enabling local artists to work, live, and create in the communities they call home.

The festive Alive With Art evening features a cocktail hour, dinner, and a silent auction with online bidding opening on May 4.

Live performances by BAC grantee [Brooklyn Raga Massive](http://bit.ly/2Hp04r3?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [DJ OP!](http://bit.ly/2qubzna?ref=hyperallergic.com) round out the night, with hip-hop artist and cultural ambassador [Toni Blackman](http://bit.ly/2HjkcKR?ref=hyperallergic.com) as the MC.
