Artist, writer, and “geographer-at-large” Eames Demetrios has been exploring significant cultural sites around the globe for over a decade, from the [Krblin Jihn Kabin](http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/index.php/content/sites/krblin%5Fjihn%5Fkabin%5Fkhs%5F1?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Joshua Tree, to the [Crystals of Refrain](http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/index.php/content/sites/crystals%5Fof%5Frefrain?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Armenia and [Paglalagay ng Mensahe sa Buwan (The Way to the Moon)](http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/index.php/content/sites/paglalagay%5Fng%5Fmensahe%5Fsa%5Fbuwan%5Fthe%5Fway%5Fto%5Fthe%5Fmoon?ref=hyperallergic.com) in the Phillipines. If you’re not familiar with these sites, you’re not alone. They belong not to our world, but to [Kcymaerxthaere](http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) (pronounced “Ky-mair-icks-theer”), a parallel universe created by Demetrios which has its own elaborate mythologies, stories, artifacts, and most impressively, [historical markers](http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/index.php/content/markers%5Fall?ref=hyperallergic.com), of which there are currently 133 in 27 countries across six continents. These range from conventional bronze plaques to more ambitious examples of public art like stone monuments, sited in barren stretches of wilderness, populated city centers, or even underwater. Located very much in the physical realm, they conjure up a fantastical world that bears similarities to our own, but is entirely fabricated, encouraging us to see our world through fresh eyes.

Eames Demetrios, Kcymaerxthaere: The Story so Far…(Folio 1)

To document these far-flung installations, Demetrios (grandson of iconic designers Charles and Ray Eames, and director of the [Eames Office](http://www.eamesoffice.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com)) has published [*Kcymaerxthaere: The Story so Far…(Folio 1)*](http://www.kcymaerxthaere.com/index.php/cart/product%5Fdetail/2776?ref=hyperallergic.com)*,* a two-volume limited-edition artists book that brings together stories, images, and artwork, as well as a glossary of over 600 Kcymaerxthaereal words. This Saturday’s [book launch at Arcana](https://www.arcanabooks.com/blog/2018/Feb/07/eames-demetrios-kcymaerxthaere-arcana/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will be accompanied by a book signing and storytelling of Kcymaerxthaere lore with Demetrios. Sales of the book will help fund its translation into 23 other languages, corresponding to countries where Kcymaerxthaere markers are located.
