In their highly innovative work, the artist team of [Lilla LoCurto and Bill Outcault](http://bit.ly/2IwW3lQ?ref=hyperallergic.com) explores issues relating to the human body, its physical and psychological vulnerability, and cultural identity. The artists often work in collaboration with mathematicians, physicists, cartographers, computer scientists, and others, using advanced technologies. Computer graphics, three- and four-dimensional scanning, and motion capture are used to uncover new ways of imaging and understanding the body, both at rest and in motion. In [*Lilla Locurto & Bill Outcault: Much Madness is divinest Sense*](http://bit.ly/2IwW3lQ?ref=hyperallergic.com)*,* the artists take their ongoing investigations to a profound place.

On view are a selection of their recent photographs, drawings, videos, and an interactive, life-size marionette that responds to and interacts with the visitor. The figure of the marionette, featured thematically throughout their new work, allows the artists to abstract the human form, its actions and emotional states, in ways that keenly resonate. In *cat’s cradle* (2019), an interactive life-size marionette responds to and interacts with the viewer, this time in increasingly subtle and sophisticated ways. An intelligent machine, it can learn and later recognize those with whom it has interacted, bridging the gap between a static statue and an interactive experience. The impact is uncanny. As the most recent addition to their ever-evolving body of work, it looks to the future while remaining rooted in the eternal.
